Question: From NCERT | NEET || [Difficult level:Easy] Subtopic:Meter Bridge & Potentiometer ||
:The potentiometer wire AB is 600 cm long. At what distance from A should the jockey J touch the wire to get zero deflection in the galvanometer?
1. 320 cm
2. 120 cm
3. 20 cm
4. 450 cm
Topic used:POTENTIOMETER :
:
- This is a versailie electric instrument used to compare emf(s) and to determine intemal resistance of a cell.
- The method involves condition of no current flow. In this way it can compare emfs of two cells.
- The potentiometer wire has uniform cross-secton and homogeneous material so potential drop per unit length of potentiometer wire is constant.
- The formula for internal resistance calculation of cell is
- L1 is balancing length without shorting cell.
- L2 is balancing length with cell by parallel resistance R .
- The potentiometer has the advantage that it draws no current from voltage source being measured. tt is not affected by internal resistance of the source. Thus it has high accuracy.
