Choose the correct statement(s) from the following.

I. Recoiling of a gun is an application of principle of

conservation of linear momentum.

II. Explosion of a bomb is based on second law of motion

(a) I only (b) II only

(c) I and II (d) None of these

Answer: (a) I only

According to third law  of motion bullet experiences a force F then, give experiences an equal and opposite force F. According to second law, F't is change in momentum of the bullet, then – F't is change in momentum of the gun. Since initially both are at rest, the final momentum = 0.  P b+ P g= 0. Thus the total momentum of (bullet + gun) is conserved.
