4. Success of the ecological community.

 Answer

3. The gradual and fairly predictable change in the species composition of a given area

The gradual and fairly predictable changes in species composition of a given area is called ecological succession. The sere refers to the different stages that form and eliminate in the process of the ecological succession until the climax community colonozes the area.

Question:   From NCERT NEET  Derived PYQ

Ecological succession occurs-

1. In a species

2. In population

3. In a community

4. All of the above

 Answer

3. In a community

Ecological succession is the gradual and fairly predictable change in the species composition of a given area. During succession, some species colonies area and their population become more numerous, whereas, the population of other species declines and even disappears.

Question:   From NCERT NEET  Derived PYQ

The final stable community in ecological succession is ?

A

Seral community

B

Pioneer communiy

C

Ecosere

D

Climax community

 Answer

Correct option is D)

The climax community is stable, self-perpetuating and final community appearing in an area at the end of biotic succession, which is in perfect harmony with the climate of the area.

The vegetation in that particular area has been reached to a stable condition after ecological succession.

Where does succession starts?

1. In an area inhabiting small plants

2. In an area with no living organisms.

3. In an area with fertile soil only

4. In an area with blue green algae

 Answer

2. In an area with no living organisms.

Ecological succession happens when new life takes over an environment. ... Primary succession occurs in essentially lifeless areas—regions in which the soil is incapable of sustaining life as a result of such factors as lava flows, newly formed sand dunes, or rocks left from a retreating glacier.

Primary Succession. Primary succession is the succession that begins in lifeless areas such as the regions devoid of soil or barren lands where the soil is unable to sustain life.

3. Grasses, Lichens, bryophytes, herbs

4. Small annual plants, perennial herbs, grasses Lichens, bryophytes

 Answer

2. Lichens, bryophytes, grasses, perennial herbs

This type of succession is limited by water availability as it occurs in dry conditions like sand deserts, rock deserts, etc. It begins with the formation of bare rocks by glaciers or volcano eruptions and reaches up to forest as a climax stage.

Xerarch succession is also called Xerosere as it occurs in xeric conditions like extremely dry environments and in this succession the development of species at different stages is limited by water availability. Xerosere begins when the bare rocks are produced and are colonized by lichens and mosses. These are followed by herbs and shrubs and finally, trees develop which in turn, form forest as the climax community in that environment.

Ecological succession is of four types – Primary succession, Secondary succession, Cyclic succession, and Seral community.
The seral community is further divided into seven different types – Hydrosere, Xerosere, Lithosere, Psammosere, Halosere, Senile, and Eosere.
